Ranch Concrete on the Hilltops
Woodcrest is an equestrian community south of Riverside, and concrete contractors working here plan for bigger properties, longer driveways and higher ground than in the valley below. The base elevation is about 1,535 feet, and some spots rise above 2,000. The name comes from the original Woodcrest Acres tract, which sat at the crest of the hills. Today the community covers about 11.4 square miles and had 15,378 residents at the 2020 census.
From orange groves to homes
Dry-land grain farmers settled the area in the late 1800s. Tracts with names like Oak Glen, House Heights, Fertile Acres and Woodcrest Acres were laid out between 1905 and 1926. After the Western Municipal Water District formed in 1955, cheaper water helped citrus spread. From the 1980s on, development pressure replaced most of the orange groves with homes, and new subdivisions are still being built as Riverside grows. That leaves Woodcrest with a mix of older ranch houses, mid-era homes and new construction.
Long driveways on a slope
On a large hillside lot, the driveway may be the biggest slab on the property. A long concrete driveway needs:
- Control joints at regular spacing and at every change in grade
- A coarse finish on steep sections so tires and boots grip
- Drainage swales or a slight crown so storm water does not run down the middle
- Thickened sections where trucks, trailers or delivery vehicles turn
On older ranch properties we often replace a cracked, patched driveway in stages, starting with the worst sections near the house or garage.
Barns, trailers and arenas
Many Woodcrest residences sit on ranches and keep horses. That brings requests for trailer pads, barn aisles, wash racks and feed room floors. Horse areas get a rough broom texture rather than a slick finish, and wash racks are sloped to a drain or gravel pit. For trailer and equipment slabs we go thicker, use rebar on chairs and compact the base carefully, since heavy loads find any soft spot in the ground.
Patios with a view
Ownership in Woodcrest is very high, 89.1% of occupied homes at the last census, and the hilltop views make backyard living a priority. Stamped concrete patios, fire-pit areas and pool decks are common requests. On a hilltop lot, wind and sun hit fresh concrete hard, so we schedule pours early, keep the surface from drying out and seal decorative work once it cures.
County, not city
Woodcrest is unincorporated and lies next to the City of Riverside, which lists it as a possible annexation area. For now, permits and street questions go through Riverside County. We check those requirements for your project before we schedule, especially where a driveway meets the road.
Shade, pools and outdoor kitchens
Hilltop backyards in Woodcrest can be hot and exposed in the afternoon, so owners often pair a new patio with a shade structure or an outdoor kitchen. We pour footings for posts at the same time as the slab and can thicken the area under a masonry barbecue island so it does not crack the patio around it. For pool decks, we leave a proper joint at the coping and use a textured finish that stays grippy when wet. Planning all of these together saves cutting into new concrete later.
For older ranch houses on the property, we also replace cracked walks, porches and steps with matching finishes.

Woodcrest Questions
Can you pour a long driveway in phases on my Woodcrest property?
Yes. We can replace the worst sections first and finish the rest later, with clean joints between pours. We plan the phases so drainage works at every stage.
What concrete do you recommend for a horse barn aisle?
A reinforced slab on a compacted base, with a coarse broom or textured finish for traction. We slope it slightly so water drains out of the barn.
Is Woodcrest part of the City of Riverside?
No. It is unincorporated, though Riverside lists it as a possible annexation area. Riverside County handles permits there for now, and we check the county rules for your project.
