Nine Communities, Many Kinds of Lots

Jurupa Valley is one of the newest cities in the region, and concrete contractors working here cover a lot of ground. Voters said yes to cityhood on March 8, 2011, by a margin of about 54 to 46, and the new city began operating on July 1, 2011. Its roughly 43.7 square miles take in Mira Loma, Pedley, Rubidoux, Glen Avon, Sunnyslope, Belltown, Indian Hills, Jurupa Hills and Crestmore Heights, and the 2020 census counted 105,053 residents.

Every community, a different job

Because the city was formed from nine communities that already had their own names and histories, we do not assume one kind of house or lot. We ask what you have before we price anything. The requests we hear from Jurupa Valley owners usually fall into three groups:

  • Fixing what is worn: cracked driveways, lifted walks and settled panels
  • Making room: RV pads, longer driveways, shop slabs and equipment pads
  • Upgrading the yard: patio extensions, stamped concrete and pool decks

RV pads and shop floors

Where a lot has room for one, an RV or a loaded work truck puts far more weight on a few square feet than a car does. For these slabs we dig to firm soil, compact a thicker base, pour a thicker slab and use rebar on chairs. We add joints at sensible spacing and thicken the edges where wheels track on and off. A shop floor gets a smooth or lightly broomed finish, depending on whether you will roll equipment on it or need traction.

Hot Augusts

The mean daily high in Jurupa Valley peaks around 95 degrees in August, and the August record is 112. Rainfall averages about 16.24 inches a year. Concrete placed on a hot afternoon can set before it is finished and crack as it dries. We start pours early, wet the subgrade beforehand and cure the slab right away with compound or water. Big pours are split into sections we can place and finish before the surface sets.

Between the river and the freeways

Interstate 15 marks the city's western limit and State Route 60 runs along its north side, while the Santa Ana River curves along the south and east, with Riverside on the opposite bank. Lots near the river and on low ground need slabs that shed water well. We look at where storm water runs on your lot and slope new concrete to carry it toward the street, a drain or a landscape area.

Mira Loma and beyond

Mira Loma was known as Wineville in the 1920s and is now one of the city's neighborhoods. It and the other eight communities still go by their own names, and residents often use those names rather than the city's. Wherever you are in the city, we check with the City of Jurupa Valley about permit needs for your project before work begins.

Older driveways and the base underneath

Older driveways were sometimes poured straight onto native soil with little or no gravel base. Over the years, irrigation water and the occasional heavy storm wash fine soil out from under the edges, and the concrete cracks where it is no longer supported. Replacing the slab without fixing that is just buying the same failure again. When we replace an older driveway, we excavate, bring in base rock, compact it and pour on top, so the new slab has firm, even support.

Jurupa Valley Questions

How thick should an RV pad be in Jurupa Valley?

Thicker than a car driveway, on a deeper compacted base, with rebar. We size it to your RV's weight and the soil we find when we dig.

Do you work in Mira Loma, Pedley and Rubidoux?

Yes. They are all part of Jurupa Valley now, and we serve every community in the city.

Who issues permits for concrete work in Jurupa Valley?

Jurupa Valley has been its own city since 2011, so permits generally go through the city rather than the county. We check what your project needs before we schedule.
